Laing and Coughlan complete GB&I clean sweep

Anne Laing & Claire Coughlan beat Brittany Lang & Michelle Wie by one hole.

It was nip and tuck on the outward half with the United States winning the first on a concession but having to concede the second to be pulled back to square.

A par at the seventh was good enough to put Lang and Wie ahead for a second time. After the eighth was halved in birdie 4s, the United States conceded the ninth for the match to go into the homeward half on level pegging.

Lang and Wie bogeyed the short 10th to fall behind for the first time but promptly squared the match with a par at the 11th. Laing and Coughlan came up with their second birdie of the tie to edge ahead again at the 12th.

United States levelled matters with a par at the 13th but GB&I went up for a third time since the turn with a par at the 14th where Wie went through the green with her approach, both sides having been bunkered off the tee.

Laing and Coughlan ran up a double-bogey 6 to be pulled back to all square at 15th.  The short 16th was halved in par-3s and the 17th in par 5s.  Coughlan holed a birdie putt on the last green for a one-hole win to complete a 3-0 clean sweep of the morning foursomes by GB&I.  Laing and Coughlan were an approximate two over par at the finish
