12th June 2004
Shelley McKevitt & Emma Duggleby beat Paula Creamer & Jane Park 3 and 2
GB&I got off to a flying start to be two up after two holes but the United States had a winning birdie at the third and a par at the short fifth was good enough to square the match.
Creamer and Park continued in the driving seat with successes at the sixth and the long eighth, which they birdied, to move into a two-hole lead. McKevitt and Duggleby hit back by birdieing the ninth, where Emma holed from 30ft, and squaring the contest at the short 10th, which the United States conceded.
The ding-dong battle swung first this way, then that way. Creamer and
Park edged ahead again with a par at the 12th but the GB&I pair then won
four holes in a row from 13th for a 3 and 2 victory. McKevitt and Duggleby
birdied the 13th and then had winning pars at the 14th, 15th and 16.
The GB&I pair were two over par for the holes played.
