MATCH 1
DUGGLEBY BOOSTS GB&I LEAD TO 4-0
Emma Duggleby beat Liz Janangelo 3 and 2
Janangelo, who did not play in the foursomes, birdied her first hole of
Curtis Cup play to go one up immediately but she had to concede the second
before birdieing the long third to regain a one-hole advantage.
Duggleby conceded the seventh to go two down but she birdied the long eighth to halve her deficit. Janangelo, out in level par 37, was one up at the turn.
Duggleby squared the match for the first time since the second with a birdie 3 at the 12th and she went ahead when Janangelo conceded the 13th.
Duggleby continued her great run with a birdie at the 14th and a concession from the American at the 15th to be dormie three.
A half in par 3s at the 16th gave Duggleby a 3 and 2 victory. Duggleby
was an approximate one over par
MATCH 2
BLASBERG BIRDIES LAST TO DENY MASTERS
Danielle Masters v Erica Blasberg
Blasberg, making her Curtis Cup debut, lost the second and third to fall two
down to Masters who birdied the long third. Masters' first bogey cost her
the short fifth and when she bogeyed the sixth her early two-hole lead had
evaporated. The seventh, eighth and ninth were halved. Both players were out
in three over par 40.
Blasberg chipped in for a birdie 2 after missing the green at the short 10th to lead for the first time and quickly doubled her lead with another birdie at the 11th. The match was suddenly slipping away from Masters who had to concede the 12th to go three down.
Masters won her first hole since the 2nd with a par 4 at the 15th to be two down with three to play. She then won the short 16th with a conceded 3 and also the 17th with a par 5 to be all square on the 18th tee.
Masters left her birdie putt on the last green short but Blasberg holed
hers from about 8ft for a one-hole victory.
MATCH 3
MORE LOSES TO CREAMER
Fame More lost to Paula Creamer 5 and 3.
Creamer birdied the first to go one up. More countered with a birdie at the
second to draw level again. A double-bogey 6 at the fourth cost More the
fourth but she drew level again at the short fifth where Creamer had a
bogey.
More went one up with a birdie 3 at the sixth where a fine approach shot left her with a 5ft putt. Creamer countered with a 20ft putt for a winning birdie 3 to square matters at the seventh. Creamer had back-to-back birdies with a 4 at the par-5 eighth where she pitched to within 12in of the hole.
More double-bogeyed the ninth and 10th. She escaped with a half at the ninth (both players out in an approximate two-over 39) but More lost the short 10th to a par 3 from Creamer to slip two holes down.
Creamer made it four winning holes in a row with a par 4 at the 11th to surge three up. After the 12th and 13th were halved in par, More conceded the American a birdie 3 at the 14th to go four down and then the GB&I player conceded the 15th to lose by 5 and 3.
Creamer was an approximate two over par.
MATCH 4
WIE OVERPOWERS HIGHGATE
Anna Highgate lost to Michelle Wie 5 and 4.
Both players drove into trees on the right of the first fairway. Highgate
had to declare her ball unplayable and finished up two-putting for a triple
bogey 7. Wie won the hole with a double-bogey 6.
Highgate drove into the semi-rough at the fourth but played her approach to within 15ft of the hole and downed the putt for a winning birdie 3 to square the contest.
Highgate went one up for the first time with a par 3 at the short fifth but her lead was short-lived. She lost the sixth and seventh with bogeys to go one down again.
Wie was getting into her stride and made it three successes in a row for a two-hole lead with a two-putt birdie 4 at the long eighth where she hit a booming drive. Wie made it four winning holes in a row with a par 4 at the ninth to be out in two-over-par 39 and three up.
Highgate could not break her run of bogeys and went four down to a par at the 11th. Wie got her second birdie at the 13th to go five up.
A half in par 4s at the 14th gave Wie a 5 and 4 victory with two-over-par
figures.
MATCH 5
PARK BEATS McKEVITT ON INWARD HALF
Shelley McKevitt lost to Jane Park 4 and 3.
Park drove into the trees at the first and eventually conceded McKevitt a
winning par 4. McKevitt bogeyed the long third to be pulled back to all
square at the third. The next five holes were halved in par figures before
Park chipped in from about 30ft for a birdie 3 to go one up at the ninth.
Park, out in 38 or 39, went two up with a par at the short 10th.
McKevitt enjoyed a change of luck when a bogey 5 at the 11th was good enough for her to win a hole for the first time since the first, leaving Park one up with seven to play.
McKevitt bogeyed the 12th and 13th, losing them both to drop three holes behind.
Park clinched a 4 and 3 win by taking the 15th with a par 4.
MATCH 6
FIVE-BIRDIE THURMAN BEATS LAING
Anne Laing lost to Annie Thurman 4 and 3
Laing made a disastrous start to be three down after three holes. She lost
the first with a double-bogey 6. Then Thurman birdied the second to be two
up and went three up when Laing ran up after 6 at the par-5 third.
Laing stopped the rot by halving the fourth in birdie 3s and scored her first success of the afternoon with a birdie 3 at the sixth.
Thurman regained a three-hole lead with a 20ft putt for a birdie 4 at the long eighth and also won the ninth with a par to be out in three-under-par 34 (the best outward half of the afternoon) and four up.
Thurman chipped in for a 2 at the short 10th - her fourth birdie of the tie - to go five up. A fifth birdie put Thurman five up at the 13th.
Laign won back the 14th with a birdie but a half in 4s at the 15th ended
the contest with Thurman a 4 and 3 winner. Thurman was roughly three under
par at the finish
