Saturday Evening Quotes
ADA O'SULLIVAN
It's been a day of mixed emotions but the way I would describe is that we
are going into tomorrow with a one-point deficit and there's absolutely no
reason that we can't overturn that.
Obviously, having spoken to all the players, it's a huge anti-climax with
the support of the crowd out there but we're a long way from home and it's
going to be another long day on Sunday and there's no reason why we can't
turn round what happened today.
Q-WHY DID IT HAPPEN?
I don't know. I haven't worked that out this evening yet with the actual team members but, judging from the sidelines myself, we made a lot of cardinal errors with the way we actually played some of the holes.
I know the greens themselves were running fast but we put balls in position off the tee that we should never do ... and drove into a lot of bunkers, which is one of the criteria that we cannot afford to do at Formby.
So, straight away, we were struggling off the tee. And that happened to a lot of the players out there.
Q- ANY REGRETS ABOUT THE AFTERNOON LINE-UP
I have no regrets about that. Everybody is playing extremely well and it was a hard decision to put out in the foursomes. It was more a case of who to leave out because everyone was playing so well.
Tomorrow's going to be another long day and I feel that some of the players need to be rested. At the same time, for tomorrow I am sticking with the same foursomes line-up, the same three foursomes pairings - I'm not saying what order they'll be in - but I've no regrets about this afternoon. There are two players - high-calibre players - who just did not play well enough and others made cardinal errors out there, particularly off the tee. It's as simple as that.
EMMA DUGGLEBY
It was quite close on the front nine when I was playing. I looked at the scoreboards when I got to two up and realised that the team were down at that point although it looked like there were a couple who could turn round their ties.
So I just decided to get stuck in and finish the match off.
DANIELLE MASTERS
You go out there just to get your point, regardless of how the team's doing. Ada's always said to us that you are a single person out there in the singles and they all add up to the team score, rather than your own individual points. So I decided just to dig down. I was three down at one point and nearly got it back.
ADA O'SULLIVAN
Anne (Laing) and Claire (Coughlan) this morning thoroughly enjoyed playing with her (Michelle Wie) and, after all, she's like all of us ... two arms, two legs and 14 clubs. What has she got that we have not got?
And, in fairness, out there this morning, they played some tremendous golf and sank some fantastic putts.
To me, they said, she is no different to anybody else. It's obviously a name and it's a case like Michelle Who? The two of them (Laing and Coughlan) were obviously on a high from doing that.
All credit to Michelle this afternoon. She played some tremendous golf. Obviously foursomes is not her thing. It's obviously something very strange to her as well.
Tomorrow we will be aiming for three out of three from the foursomes and there's no reason why we can't do it again. I'd certainly be hoping to win two points in the morning.
Tonight, with the team, I'll be analysing where we made the mistakes so that the same mistakes are not made again tomorrow. All being said, we're just one point behind and it's all to play for out there.
