2007 GB & I Team announced for Vagliano Trophy

The Ladies’ Golf Union is delighted to announce the Great Britain & Ireland Team for the Vagliano Trophy match against Continent of Europe
Fairmont St Andrews, Scotland July 27 and 28 2007.

Captain Mary McKenna who will also Captain the 2008 Curtis Cup Team, and holds her own record of nine Curtis Cup caps said;

“I’m very happy and pleased with the team that’s been chosen. I’m honoured to be involved with such an inspirational and strong international team.
They will work hard and we’ll get 100% out of them.
I’m looking forward to some exciting matches and to getting a lot of support at St Andrews, Scotland”

Five of the team – Caithness, Edwards, Loucks, Reid and Smith won the Commonwealth tournament for Britain for first time since 1991 in South Africa last month.
Four of the team played in last year’s Curtis Cup match against United States at Bandon Dunes, Oregon - Delaney, Edwards, Loucks and Reid.
Only Kerry Smith played in the last Vagliano Trophy match at Chantilly, France in 2005.
Britain & Ireland have won the last two Vagliano Trophy matches, 2003 at County Louth (12 ½-11 ½), 2005 at Chantilly (13-11).

Breanne Loucks won the 2007 Welsh closed championship.Quarter-finalist in “British” this week.

Melissa Reid won the 2007 Helen Holm Scottish open stroke-play at Troon and the St Rule Trophy at St Andrews. Beaten by Naomi Edwards in the final of 2007 English closed championship. English girls champion in 2004 and 2005.

Kerry Smith. Gained 7 1/2pts out of eight in the Commonwealth tournament-winning team last month. 2004 English champion, the year she played in the Curtis Cup.

Krystle Caithness. Youngest member of the team at the age of 18.
Won 2006 St Rule Trophy over her home courses at St Andrews.
2006 Scottish Under-21 champion. Quarter-fnalist in “British” this week, beaten by Anna Nordqvist.

Naomi Edwards. Won 2006 St Rule Trophy and 2007 English closed championship (beating Melissa Reid in final) & member of the winning Commonwealth team this year and Curtis Cup team 2006.

Tara Delaney. Leading qualifier in this season’s Irish women’s closed championship. Student at Kent State University, Ohio. Won American women’s college tournament during 2006-2007 season in States. 2004 and 2005 Irish women’s open amateur stroke-play champion. 2007 Irish women’s closed championship leading qualifier.

Rachel Bell. 2007 Ladies British open amateur championship semi-finalist at Alwoodley this past week. Second in 2007 Helen Holm Scottish open stroke-play at Troon and fifth in the 2007 St Rule Trophy with scores including a 65.

Liz Bennett. 2007 English closed championship leading qualifier. Lost to eventual champion Naomi Edwards in semi-finals. 2006 English women’s closed stroke-play champion.

Sahran Hassan. 2005 Welsh girls champion. 2007 Ladies British open amateur championship quarter-finalist this week at Alwoodley.
2007 Welsh women’s closed championship semi-finalist.
