Day two Singles Matches
Scotland v England
Ladybank’s Lorna Bennett played Susan Ellis (Ferndown) in the first match of the afternoon singles. Despite losing the first hole, Bennett dominated the match peaking at 4up through twelve holes, birding the 5th and 9th clinching the match with a steady run of three pars from 14-16. Scotland won this match 3 & 2
Carole Caldwell v Pamela Williamson
Sunningdale’s former Curtis cup player, Carole Caldwell took charge of this match in the first half, leading by two up after 10 holes, Scotland’s Pamela Williamson, scored a birdie on 11 to turn the match around reaching three ahead and winning the match 3 & 2.
Fiona De Vries v Christine Watson
A crucial match for Scotland’s Fiona De Vries who fought back after being down all the way to the 16th hole; match all square going down 17, which they halve in fives, Scotland & England level with one to play. England take the hole with a birdie 4 to win the point.
Margaret Tough v Sue Dye
Falkirk’s Margaret Tough, took charge of this match only losing the 5th hole to a birdie 2 from England’s Sue Dye, who claimed some holes back to take the match all the way to the 18th with Scotland one up. Tough got tougher as she chips in on the last to win the match 2up.
Kathleen Sutherland v Chris Quinn
England have a convincing win over Scotland in this match with a 5 & 3 victory. Chris Quinn played some impressive golf to remain ahead in this match, 4 up after 9 holes, she kept this lead until the end.
Ireland v Wales
Ireland’s Eileen McMullen(Donegal) faced the experienced Welsh player, Vicki Thomas (Carmarthen). Wales won this match 9&7, with three birdies the game was over on the 11th.
Mary McKenna v Janet Doleman, this match finished all square with both players producing some fantastic golf. Ireland’s McKenna led the way dominating the match until the 17th hole, Doleman birdied 17 to bring the match to level, a half on 18 resulted in a squared match.
