2006 Peugeot Coronation Foursomes Grand Final

From an initial entry of over 35,000, 12 ladies’ foursomes pairs will contest the Grand Final of the 2006 Peugeot Coronation Foursomes over the Jubilee course, St Andrews on Monday 18th September.

The Jubilee Course will be a stiff examination of the abilities of the 24 players whose handicaps range from 4 to 36. Fairways lined with high rough and greens showing true links characteristics will greet the finalists, ensuring that only the best will survive.

That was the case in 2005 when the Stoke Rochford pairing of Norma Varley and Sheila Dugmore won the title with a points score of 36, finishing one point clear of second placed Karen James and Hazel Daniel from Vale of Glamorgan.

For Norma and Sheila, winning in St Andrews was only the start and as part of their prize they were allocated places to play in the Pro-Am of the 2006 Weetabix Women’s British Open at Royal Lytham & St. Annes alongside 2004 Champion Karen Stupples. This year’s eventual winners will go one better and qualify for the Pro-Am of 2007 Woman’s British Open which will be played over the world famous Old Course at St Andrews. This will be the first time that a women’s professional golf tournament has been contested over the Old Course’s hallowed links.

2006 represents the fifth year of Peugeot’s title sponsorship of the Coronation Foursomes, which has brought players from England, Scotland and Wales together in Great Britain’s largest Ladies’ tournament.

Play starts at club level where each winning pair progress through to one of 12 Area Finals – eight of which are in England, three in Scotland and one in Wales – where they attempt to earn their place in the Grand Final.

Whatever the outcome, 24 lady golfers from the length and breadth of the country will have the experience of a lifetime at the ‘Home of Golf’ on Monday 18th September.
