England and Wales start well at Frilford Heath
On a pleasant day at Frilford Heath the English team started solidly against Ireland after going behind early on. Kerry Smith and Sophie Walker eventually edged a close contest by 1 hole against Ireland's top pairing of Tricia Mangan and Martina Gillen while Rachel Bell and Naomi Edwards won by a 3 and 2 margin against Claire Coughlan and Danielle McVeigh. Ireland's pairing of Deidre Smith and Maura Morrin won Ireland's only foursomes points with a halved match with England's pairing of Liz Bennett and Melissa Reid.Wales also started confidently against Scotland winning two out of the three morning Foursomes matches. Tara Davies and Becky Harries triumphed 4 & 3 against 2006 Mid Amateur Champion Martine Pow and Sara Bishop while Jo Nicolson and Katherine O' Connor won by a 3 & 2 margin against Jenna Wilson and Roseanne Niven. Scotland's pairing of Heather Macrae and Sally Watson birdied the 18th to seal a two hole victory against Breanne Loucks and Sahra Hassan.
