Irvine will be wet but playable for Ladies' Home Internationals

Ayrshire’s golf courses have not escaped the recent downpours in Scotland, which have played havoc with scheduled amateur tournaments the length and breadth of the country
But there’s no danger that the Women’s Home Internationals will not start on time tomorrow at Irvine Golf Club even though there was more heavy rain today.
“Believe it or not but we have had rain at Irvine at some time or other during the day or night for the past 54 consecutive days,” said head greenkeeper Derek Wilson.
“This summer the course has never had the chance to dry out and play the way it should. The greens, like the fairways, are much softer than I would like them but the ladies will probably prefer that they can fire the ball at the flag rather than have to drop their approach shots short and hope to judge the bounce.”
Secretary Willie McMahon is proud of the fact that Irvine Golf Club was chosen to host one of the highlights of the second half of the Ladies' Golf Union season.  “Derek Wilson and his staff have worked hard to ensure the course remains playable. It drains very well but there’s been so much rain, it still requires a lot of work.”

Wales, captained by Sue Turner, begin their defence of the title they won at Wrexham with a match against England, captained by Julie Otto.
Scotland, whose skipper Lesley Nicholson is optimistic her squad can win the Miller Trophy for the first time since the Scots were champions in 1990 and 1991, open their campaign by playing Ireland, captained by Claire Robinson.

There is no charge for admission or car parking and spectators will be made most welcome.
