Mozo wins the 2006 Girls' British Open Amateur Championship
Belen Mozo narrowly defeated Scotland's Sally Watson by 1 hole to win the 2006 Girls' British Open Amateur Championship at Portstewart.Contrary to the forecast the weather was kind for the final and both girls played exceptional golf in front of large galleries. Mozo was never more than 2 up but Watson won 10 and 11 to square the match. Mozo held her nerve to win the 17th before getting up and down at the last to seal her win.
Mozo now holds both the Ladies' and Girls' British Open Amateur Championships a first since Mickey Walker completed the same double in 1972.
