England make an impressive start at Fairhaven

England made an impressive start to their defence of the Girls Home Internationals title with a 3-0 clean sweep of the morning foursomes against Wales at Fairhaven Golf Club.

Kelly Tidy and Heidi Baek fought back from three down after six holes to beat Chloe Williams and Natasha Gobey on the 18th green.
The Welsh pair, after losing the first hole, won the second, third, fourth and six holes but Tidy and Baek had begun their fightback before the turn. They won the eighth and the ninth to be one down at the turn before squaring the contest at the 10th.

It was nip and tuck over the inward half with Williams and Gobey managing to get on terms with a birdie 4 at the 15th.
The short 17th proved to be the decisive hole. Tidy and Baek were able to get their noses in front again with a par 3 and a half in 5 at the last left England the winners by one hole.

England went 2-0 ahead when Hayley Davis and Hannah Turland beat Gemma and Katie Bradbury by 4 and 3.
The Bradbury girls won the opening hole with a par 5 and halved the second but the England pair dominated proceedings after that. They squared the match at the third and went two up with successes at the fourth and fifth.

Davis and Turland stretched their lead to four holes by winning the eighth and ninth. The Bradburys won the 11th with a 4 to a 6 to get back to two down but lost the 13th and the 15th to close the match.
Alexandra Peters and Holly Clyburn beat Kelly Miller and Amy Boulden by 2 and 1 to complete England’s 3-0 capture of the foursomes.
Miller and Boulden were one down early on but won the third and the fourth to edge ahead before Peters and Clyburn hit back to win the sixth, seventh and eighth and lead by two holes.

Wales won back the ninth but dropped to two down again by losing the 10th. England went three up at the 14th but lost the 15th before havling the 16th and 17th for victory. European champions Ireland took a 2-1 lead over Scotland.

The Maguire twins, Leona and Lisa, were three up after six holes in the lead-off tie against Ailsa Bain and Sammy Leslie who cut their deficit to two at the turn by winning the eighth.
Ireland took a grip on the outcome by winning the 10th and the 12th, with a birdie, and finishing off the match by winning the 14th for a 5 and 4 victory.

Patrice Delaney and Carla Reynolds made it 2-0 for Ireland with a 2 and 1 win over Lesley Atkins and Alyson McKechin.
Delaney and Reynolds went one up with a birdie 2 at the fifth. Another birdie 2, at the 10th, double the Irish pair’s lead before Scotland came back at them with successes at the 11th and 12th to square the match.
A par 4 at the 14th was good enough to put Ireland ahead again and they clinched victory with a 3 at the short 17th.
Scotland got a vital point from the last foursomes match in which Eilidh Briggs and Rachael Watton beat Laura McCarthy and Emma O’Driscoll by 2 and 1.

The Scots pair won the third, fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth in going four up at the turn after the Irish had won the second hole.
McCarthy and O’Driscoll halved their deficit by winning the 12th and 13th but the Scots held them at bay with halves to win on the 17th green.
