All set at Fairhaven for the 2009 Girls' Home International Matches

This is the 44th staging of the Girls’ Home International matches this week and Ireland have never managed to win the Stroyan Cup.
But, after their historic capture of the European girls’ team championship in Finland at the beginning of July, the Irish must start favourites to end their 43 lean years at Fairhaven Golf Club, Lancashire this week.

There is a numerical difference between the Girls’ Home Internationals and the European girls’ team championsip.
It is eight-a-side in the GHI and teams of four in the European contest.
Ireland’s squad contains only three of the European title-winners – the 14-year-old Maguire twins, Lisa and Leona, both from the Slieve Russell club, and Laura McCarthy (Muskerry).

The absentee is US-based Stephanie Meadow, a member at Royal Portrush Golf Club, but a student at the Hank Haney International Golf Academy in South Carolina. Stephanie qualified to play in the United States women’s amateur championship this week.

England are defending the title they won over three very wet days at Panmure Golf Club, near Carnoustie last year.
Scotland were bidding to complete a hat-trick of Stroyan Cup triumphs last year when they finished third behind champions England and runners-up Ireland.

The three-day tournament at Fairhaven Golf Club starts on Tuesday with the England v Wales match first off the tee, followed by Scotland against Ireland
