The Essex County Club was founded in 1893. The original Club House was completed the same year. At that time, the grounds included a full size polo field, two clay tennis courts, and a nine-hole golf course. Today, ECC boasts an expanded Club House, a Donald Ross designed eighteen-hole golf course (1917), ten grass and ten clay tennis courts, three paddle tennis courts, and a full size swimming pool. All of these amenities are located on 180 acres in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts.
Long a site for significant national golf and tennis events, Essex is proud to be hosting the 36th Curtis Cup in June 2010, matching the best amateur United States female golfers against Great Britain and Ireland. One of the early Curtis Cup matches was held at Essex in 1938. The event was named for the famed Curtis sisters, Margaret and Harriet, both members of Essex and accomplished golfers in their own right.
The Club is proud to be the site for this prestigious event and looks forward to welcoming golf fans from around the world.
