The 2008 Senior Home International Matches

2008 SENIORS’ HOME INTERNATIONAL MATCHES

England’s Senior Champions, Janet Collingham and Susan Dye, will lead the English team in their bid for a sixth successive Seniors’ Home International crown when the annual round robin matches take place at Little Aston Golf Club from the 30th September - 2nd October.

England has selected the same team which finished fourth at the recent European Senior Ladies’ Team Championships at Wouwse Plantage Golf Club in the Netherlands.

Given England’s impressive record in the Senior Home Internationals they are sure to head into this annual four-cornered event as buoyant as ever and will look to continue their dominance of the matches. England has won the annual event ever year since it’s inception in 2003.

There may however, still be hope for the other countries as this year’s team only sees three of last year's triumphant English side return to defend their title.

Scotland, runners-up in last year's event at Royal Tara, also have quality in their side with both the Scottish Seniors’ Matchplay Champion Lorna Bennett, and newly crowned Scottish Veterns’ Champion, Fiona de Vries, among four players returning from last year’s team. Mary McKenna, the eight-times Irish champion and the captain of the GB&I team for the 2009 Vagliano Trophy and 2010 Curtis Cup, as well as Irish Seniors’ Close Champion Sheena O’Brien Kenney are included in Ireland's title – seeking squad.

Former Curtis Cup player Vicki Thomas, who has won both the Welsh Matchplay title and the Irish Seniors’ Open crown this season, will be hoping her individual success can rub off on her team-mates and help Wales make a strong challenge for honours, while Welsh Stroke play Champion, Jane Rees also lines up in a strong Welsh side.

The format of the Matches will see each Country compete in 3 Foursomes followed by 5 Singles matches on each of the three days.
