Players at Hilton Templepatrick were delighted to see a break in recent rain as the first round got underway today. Last week's Irish Seniors' Championship was only completed with the aid of some stern squeeqing and bad weather has continued over the weekend. Only a week ago the river at Hilton Templepatrick burst its banks and some of the greens were completely underwater. The Course Manager, Frank Ainsworth and his team have had a difficult job preparing for this Championship and when the LGU arrived onsite on Saturday the course was looking exceptionally well. Sadly torrential overnight rain on Sunday evening has resulted in preferred lies being required. So far so good and everything crossed as everyone has commenced their first round in dry conditions overhead but rather soggy ones underfoot.
