Scotland take second place

England win the Ladies' Internationals Matches

England triumph today for the third year in a row as they win the International Matches at Dunbar Golf Club. The team dominated the series, winning all three matches, earlier beating Wales 6-3 and Scotland 7½-1½. 

SCOTLAND 6, WALES 3
Foursomes: J Wilson, M Thomson lost to S Evans, T Davies 2 and 1; L Murray, P Pretswell bt S Hassan, R W Thomas 6 and 4, E Ogilvy, C Booth bt L Hall, L Gould 2 and 1 (2-1).
Singles: Wilson lost to Davies 2 and 1, Booth bt Hassan 1 hole, Murray bt R Harries 2 and 1, Ogilvy bt Hall 3 and 1, Pretswell lost to Gould 4 and 3, Thomson bt Evans 2 holes (4-2).


IRELAND 3 1/2, ENGLAND 5 1/2
Foursomes: T Delaney, N Kitching lost to N Edwards, K Smith 6 and 5; D McVeigh, M Riordan halved with R Bell, E Bennett; M Morrin, G O’Leary lost to R Jennings, D Montgomery 6 and 4 (1/2-2 ½).
Singles: K Delaney bt Edwards 2 and 1, T Delaney bt Bell 3 and 1, McVeigh lost to Smith 3 and 2, Riordan lost to Bennett 3 and 2, O’Leary bt Montgomery 3 and 2, Morrin lost to Jennings 7 and 6.

FINAL RESULTS
1 England 3pt, 2 Scotland 2pt, 3 Ireland 1pt, 4 Wales 0pt.


In windy and cold conditions Ireland storm in front this afternoon in the last singles matches of the competition.  The Delaney sisters both win their matches against Ganton players, Naomi Edwards and Rachel Bell.
 
Kerry Smith grabs England’s first point with a 3&2 win against Daniele McVeigh. Smith (Waterlooville) had back-to-back birdies on the 4th, 5th and 6th holes to move three ahead and put her in pole position. Smith remained ahead and a further birdie on 12 helped her to clinch the match.

Rachel Jennings gets the next point for England as she wins her match early on the 12 hole with a 7&6 victory against Maura Morrin.

Liz Bennett beats Marian Riordan 3&2 despite early birdies from both teams on hole one and then on nine, a birdie for Bennett kept her three ahead, and shared results on 14 and 15 completed the match for England.

Irelands Gillian O'Leary wins against England's Danielle Montgomery as this match finishes with 3&2 victory. A birdie on 7 for Ireland took the match ahead, double bogey on nine for England gave Ireland another chance and on the way to defeating England.  Ireland conceded the 15th to England but was too late in the match, an half on 16 finished the game.

Jenny Clink (English Captain) said, " I am absolutely delighted with my team, they all worked really well together, as we kept the same pairings all week, which proved a winning combination.  All the team played their part, I couldn't have asked for more, it was an all round solid performance."

Wales win the first game of the Scotland v Wales matches.  Tara Davies managed a win against Scottish Champion Jenna Wilson in a closely fought match which finished two up, Tara was on form this week as she got a hole in one earlier in the week.

Scotland then went on to win the next three matches with impressive play in tough conditions, Carly Booth, 15, won by one hole when she eagled the 14th sinking a incredible 30 foot putt, she bogeyed 16, birdie 2 on 17 and a par on 18 won her on the match.  

Laura Murray who also won her morning foursomes showed determination as she was down most of the first nine, she faught back to win the match 2&1.

Emily Ogilvy claimed another point as she won her match 3&1 with Michele Thomson winning 1up against Stephanie Evans.   

Lucy Gould (Wales) won 4&3 against Pamela Pretswell.  

Captain Jayne Smyth is extremely proud of her young team, "We have fought back this afternoon to take the runners up spot which is fantastic as we have seven new caps this year" I am very proud of them, they have great fighting spirit and its a great achievement for all involved."
