Welsh player Tara Davies gets hole in one at Dunbar in Home Internationals
Singles Results:Scotland v Ireland 4 1/2 - 1 1/2
Afternoon Singles Matches tee off after some impressive play this morning. As the clouds lift over the course conditions improve for the afternoons play.
The atmosphere builds here at Dunbar this afternoon as the first match between Scotland’s Jenna Wilson and Welsh player Karen Delaney goes in Scotland’s favour with the Scottish Champion retaining the lead after 14 holes in the favourable position of three up with four holes to play.
Wilson completed the match with a half on the 14th and 15th and won the match on the 16th hole, 3 & 2 to lift her team to a one-point win, Scotland’s first point in the afternoon.
Scotland also won match two with a one up result. The 2007 Scottish Girls Champion Carly Booth was two up against Ireland’s Danielle McVeigh after fourteen holes, and although Booth (Comrie) was three up after eleven holes she always remained in prime position to gain a second point for Scotland.
Match three provides the first win of the afternoon for Ireland's Tara Delaney with an impressive 3 & 2 win against Scotland's Emily Ogilvy.
Megan Briggs (Kilmacolm), the 2007 Scottish Girls' finalist and Marian Riordan took their match all the way to end resulting in a halved match and half a point for both teams in match four.
The next match was very close between, Scotland's Michele Thomson and Ireland's Maura Morrin. A win with a birdie on the last hole showed Thomson (McDonald) at her best as she hit her tee shot left onto the first fairway then recovered with a fantastic 8 iron shot over the bunker finishing a foot from the hole, much to the delight of the spectators, she sunk the putt to win.
Pamela Pretswell from Bothwell Castle kept up the Scottish charge by winning her match against Ireland's Gillian O'Leary by 3 & 1. Pretswell, a member of the recent victorious Girls' International team was ahead all the way and managed to fight off a late come back from O'Leary.
Scotland's Team Captain, Jayne Smith is delighted with her team. "I am so proud of them, we have such a young team and they have been fantastic, the team spirit is great. We are taking each days as it comes but hope for more of the same tomorrow".
England v Wales 4 1/2 - 1 1/2
English players Naomi Edwards, Rachel Bell and Liz Bennett all win their singles matches this afternoon against Wales, with Kerry Smith loosing to Stephanie Evans (Vale of Llangollen) 3 & 2.
Tara Davies was alerted by spectators to her hole in one on the 135 yard 16th as the green is hiden by a mound from the tee. A perfect 9 iron shot took her match against England's Claire Aitken to all square. Matched finished all square.
Rachel Jennings beat Becky Harris in an exciting match as Wales stayed up in the game until the 12th hole, when the match turned and Jennings fought back to win the match 2 & 1.
England Captain Jenny Clink said, "I am obviously delighted with the result today, although the final score suggests that it was easier than it was, we had some very close matches with fantastic golf played by both teams, tomorrow we start again."
