England and Scotland win morning foursomes at Home Internationals

England continue to dominate the Home International Matches in the foursomes this morning as the wind makes play more difficult for the competitors.

The first English pairing of Naomi Edwards (Ganton) & Kerry Smith (Waterlooville) defeat Ireland’s Tara Delaney & Niamh Kitching early with a convincing win of 6 & 5, to gain the first points of the morning.

Rachel Bell (Ganton) & Liz Bennett (Brokenhurst Manor) confidently take charge of their game as they move to two in the lead after 10 holes, however Irish players Danielle McVeigh and Marian Riordan fight back to return the match to their favour going down the last.  Match finishes all square with 1/2 point to each team.

Rachel Jennings (Izaak Walton) & Danielle Montgomery (Lambourne) who face Maura Morrin and Gillian O'Leary lead from kick off as they gradually increase their winning margin to five at the turn.  They continue this lead to the finish and complete the match 5 & 4.

England Captain Jenny Clink was delighted with her teams performances this morning, "We still have all to play for this afternoon...we hope for some great singles matches with Ireland and for an enjoyable end to what has been a great week in Scotland."

Scotland fly the flag for the home nation and are out in force in the foursomes against Wales as they take charge of the first two matches, Jenna Wilson and Michele Thomson are two ahead after nine holes against Stephanie Evans and Tara Davies.  Wales bring this back to their advantage with some impressive golf and win the match 2 & 1

Laura Murray & Pamela Pretswell are well ahead in match 5 as they are five ahead after eight holes. They maintain this lead and win the match 6 & 4 to give a point to the Scottish camp.

Carly Booth and Emily Ogilvy were also ahead in their match against Lydia Hall and Lucy Gould of Wales after eight holes however Wales managed to bring the match back to even after 14 holes.   Birdies on 13 and 16 put Scotland one ahead after 16 holes.   Wales conceded 17 for Scotland to take a win in the last match.  (2 & 1)
