GB&I TRAINING SQUAD TAKE ON TOP MEN

The top lady golfers from Great Britain and Ireland will be in action this weekend as they take on two men’s selects at Royal Liverpool and West Lancashire.

With a team soon to be named for the Commonwealth Tournament in South Africa, from 7-11 May, against Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa, this will be the last chance to impress the selectors before they announce the six players, on Monday 26 March.

On Saturday 17 March at West Lancashire, a course that is used on a regular basis as one of the Local Final Qualifying courses for The Open, the GB&I training squad will play a match consisting of 13 singles against a top Lancashire men’s team that includes Richard Walker, the 2001 English Stroke Play champion.

That match is followed on the Sunday by a fourball contest against Cheshire men over the testing links at Hoylake where Tiger Woods won the 2006 Open Championship.

The LGU Training Squad includes Curtis Cup players Melissa Reid, Naomi Edwards, Breanne Loucks and Kerry Smith. Smith is certainly the most experienced player in the squad while Carly Booth, aged only 14, has recently returned from America where she attends the David Leadbetter School in Florida.

Former Welsh International Sue Turner, the Captain, will be in charge of both matches.

A draw for both days is downloadable at the right hand side of this page.
