Second round play was suspended due to darkness at 9.20pm with 3 players returning at 6am to complete their second round.  Round 3 will commence at approximately 7am.

Scotland’s Catriona Matthew has improved on her first round score by five shots carding a (-5 par) 68 in day two of the Ricoh Women’s British Open at the Old Course St Andrews. The home favourite moved to within a stroke of the lead when Ochoa bogeyed the last.

"It was a great feeling having people cheering you onto the greens. In the States you don't get the home support - and obviously it would be great to win."

With Birdies on the 2nd, 6th, 7th, 11th and 17th Catriona got off to a great start and is one shot behind the leader Mexico’s Lorena Ochoa who has maintained her authority at the top of the leaderboard with a level par 73, consisting of a birdie on the first, bogey on the 11th slipping back to -6, she then birdied the 14th moving back to -7, three putts on the 18th, dropped a shot to move to -6 still one ahead in her quest to win a major.

Wendy Ward, American Solheim Cup player, made 5 birdies and two bogeys to score a –3 par 70 to move into contention.

A threat to the leaders, former World No.1 Annika Sorenstam and defending Champion Sherri Stenhauer, are in the next group on -1 par with England's Rebecca Hudson, who dropped a shot on 18.

A total of 65 and ties will make the cut and play for the prestigious title for the first time at the Old Course, St Andrews.
