The Peugeot LGU Coronation Foursomes has again underlined its position in the national calendar with almost 1400 clubs taking part in GB&I’s most popular competition for lady golfers.

Early in the year, the competition starts at club level where pairs aim to win their club foursomes stableford and qualify to go forward to one of 16 Area Finals held throughout the UK & Ireland.

The Grand Final was played at St Andrews on Monday 19 September, 32 area finalists competed for the coveted national title over the renowned Eden Course. Cath Arter and Alison Mason from Rothley Park won the competition
with 36 points and secured themselves a place in the 2012 Ricoh Women’s British Open pro-am at Royal Liverpool (Hoylake).

CURTIS CUP DEBUTS FOR FIVE OF GB&I TEAM AT DUN LAOGHAIRE

The Great Britain and Ireland team of eight for the 39th Curtis Cup match against the United States of America at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club, near Dublin, from June 10 to 12 has been named and will feature three players who have previously participated in the biennial transatlantic women's amateur international contest. 

TEAM GB & I TO PRACTISE AT THE CASTLE GOLF CLUB 

The Great Britain and Ireland team to challenge the United States of America, at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club, near Dublin from June 10 to 12, will warm up for the international contest with a "friendly" match against a team from Castle Golf Club on the south side of Dublin.

USA CURTIS CUP TEAM ANNOUNCED

Hannah O’Sullivan, of Chandler, Ariz., the 2015 U.S. Women’s Amateur champion, was among the eight players named today by the United States Golf Association (USGA) to the USA Team for the 2016 Curtis Cup Match, to be conducted June 10-12 at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club in Enniskerry, Ireland, outside Dublin.

THE LADIES’ GOLF UNION AND THE R&A TO MERGE

The Ladies’ Golf Union (LGU) and The R&A are to proceed with a merger of the two organisations.

Following an extensive consultation exercise, agreement has been reached on the merger of the two St Andrews-based bodies with the process due to be completed in the coming months.

The LGU organises a series of prestigious championships and international matches including the Ricoh Women’s British Open and the Curtis Cup and the merger will be an opportunity to further develop these world class events.

ENGLAND CRUSHES IRISH HOPES OF RETAINING MILLER TROPHY

England have won the Miller Trophy at the Home Internationals for the fourth time in the past five years.

 

They did it by beating front-runners Ireland 5-4, overtaking them in the singles after losing the final day morning foursomes 2-1 at Royal Wimbledon Golf Club, London.

SANDRA NORDAAS WINS BRITISH GIRLS' TITLE

 

 

 

Sandra Nordaas is the first Norwegian to win British title since Marianne Skarpnord in 2003 after quality final of 10 birdies and no bogeys.

A FINAL CHANCE TO MAKE IT TO TURNBERRY

The draw for the Ricoh Women’s British Open Final-Qualifying has been made, a competition which provides a final opportunity for professionals and amateurs to clinch a spot at Turnberry.

The Continent of Europe won the Junior and Senior Vagliano Trophies in a stunning yet extremely tense final day at Malone Golf Club, Northern Ireland.

 

JOINT STATEMENT FROM THE LADIES’ GOLF UNION AND THE R&A

Exploratory discussions are underway between the Ladies’ Golf Union (LGU) and The R&A towards establishing a more closely coordinated working relationship and the possibility of a merger between the two organisations.

 

RICOH WOMEN'S BRITISH OPEN MOVES TO SKY IN 2017

The Ladies Golf Union and IMG today can confirm a new five-year broadcast agreement for the Ricoh Women’s British Open with the UK’s two largest sports broadcasters, Sky and the BBC, running from 2017 – 2021, in an arrangement similar to that announced last week by the R&A for the Open Championship.

LGU SADDENED AT LOSS OF CATHERINE BAILEY

All at the LGU were saddened to hear of the death of Catherine Bailey (Tandridge) on Wednesday 4th February.

 

Catherine was Senior Ladies’ British Champion 1988 & 1989. She represented Surrey for many years and was a member of at least 3 winning teams in the County Championship Finals. 

LGU APPOINTS HELEN AS TEAM MANAGER

Lincolnshire Ladies' County Captain and seven times County champion, Helen Hewlett (nee Dobson)  has accepted an invitation from the Ladies’ Golf Union, to be team manager of the Great Britain & Ireland teams for the Vagliano Trophy matches at Malone Golf Club, Belfast on June 26-27 and next year's Curtis Cup match at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club, near Dublin.

LGU CONGRATULATES VICE PRESIDENT ON HER NEW YEAR'S HONOUR

Yorkshire’s Sue Johnson, a Vice President of the LGU and one of the first Presidents of England Golf, has been made an OBE for services to golf in the New Year Honours list. 

 

“This is a very great honour,” said Sue, who has held prominent positions within golf at national, county and club level. “I must be very lucky to be honoured for doing something which has given me the greatest pleasure.”

USA NAMES CAPTAIN FOR 2016 CURTIS CUP

The United States Golf Association announced today that Robin Burke, of Houston, Texas, has been selected as captain of the 2016 USA Curtis Cup Team. The 39th Match will be played from 10-12 June. 2016 at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club near Dublin, Ireland.   The Curtis Cup Match is an eight-female team competition between the USA and Great Britain and Ireland (GB&I).

LADIES' GOLF SADDENED AT THE LOSS OF CATHERINE BOOTH

Everyone at the LGU was saddened to hear of the death on Saturday of Vice-President Catherine Booth, after a long struggle with ill health. Catherine, who hailed from Clontarf in Ireland, was President from 2004-2007, and was a great supporter and promoter of ladies' golf throughout her life.

The 5 player GB & I team to defend the Astor Trophy title in Australia from 11-16th January has been named.  A mixture of youth and experience has been selected to defend the Astor Trophy for Great Britain & Ireland in Australia.

One of the hot topics in golf at the moment is pace of play. Pace of play is affected by many factors, including player ability and behaviour, management practices and course difficulty and set-up.

DAY 3 - ENGLAND WINS SENIOR HOME INTERNATIONALS 

England added the Senior Home Internationals trophy to the European Team title won earlier in the year, and at the same time celebrated the country's clean sweep in the three Ladies', Seniors. and Girls' Home Internationals in 2014.

DAY 3 - ENGLAND MAINTAINS MOMENTUM TOWARDS SUE JOHNSON TROPHY WIN
Three wins out of three in the morning foursomes leaves England in pole position to secure the Sue Johnson Trophy.
DAY 2 SCOTLAND'S WOOD CELEBRATES HOLE-IN-ONE

Great excitement when Scotland's Sheena Wood scored a hole-in-one at the par 3 13th hole at Huddersfield, while Ireland came out of the traps to whitewash Wales in the afternoon singles

DAY 2 - ENGLAND AND IRELAND SET THE PACE

England enjoyed an emphatic clean-sweep victory over Scotland in the morning foursomes, while defending champions Ireland put yesterday's disappointment aside to beat Wales by 2.5 to 0.5.

DAY 1 - ENGLAND AND WALES TURN THE TIDE IN THE SINGLES

Having finished the morning foursomes trailing their opponents, both England and Wales turned the tables in the afternoon singles to win their matches.

Ireland and Scotland ran out winners in the morning foursomes in the Senior Home Internationals at Huddersfield Golf Club.

The 2014 Ladies'Senior Home International Matches tee off this morning at Huddersfieid Golf Club in England, with Ireland defending the title won last year at Llandudno Maesdu.

DIANE BAILEY MBE TO BE LGU PRESIDENT

Two-time Curtis Cup winning Captain Diane Bailey MBE will become the next President of the Ladies’ Golf Union at the Annual General Meeting in February 2015.

BELFAST PAIR WINS PEUGEOT FOURSOMES AFTER STORMING FINISH

The Peugeot Coronation Foursomes champions for 2014 are Jenny Gibson and Marie Canavan from Belvoir Park, Belfast, who stormed their way to a great closing total of 39 points in the handicap stableford event on the Eden Course, St Andrews, just pipping Tina Earley and Elaine Coomber (Redlibbets) on a better inward half.

LADIES' GOLF MOURNS THE DEATH OF 3 TIME CURTIS CUP PLAYER RUTH SLARK (PORTER)

Everyone at the Ladies' Golf Union was saddened to hear of the death of Ruth Slark (nee Porter) on 15 September 2014. British Girls' Champion in 1956, Ruth went on to win the English Championship in 1959, 1961 and 1965, and was capped for England many times, particularly on 10 occasions in the Home International Matches.

Wales ran out overall winners by 5.5 to 3.5 over Ireland to leave a crunch match against England on day 3.

CATH RAWTHORE SECURES SENIORS TITLE

Catherine Rawthore of Sale shot a final round 74 to take the Ladies British Senior Amateur title with a score of -1 (227) at Royal Dornoch.

WALES AND ENGLAND WIN DAY 2 MORNING FOURSOMES

Wales keep their hopes of retaining the Home International Matches title alive with a sound 2.5 to 0.5 win over Ireland, who beat England 6-3 on day 1. Becky Harries and Chloe Williams continued their unbeaten runs, with a 5&4 win over Amy Farrell and Sinead Sexton.

WALES & IRELAND ARE DAY 1 WINNERS AT ABERDOVEY

The morning foursomes, which saw Ireland play England and defending champions Wales take on Scotland, were halved, with each team scoring 1.5 points.

The Annual Dinner will be held at The Old Course Hotel Golf Resort & Spa, St Andrews on Friday 20 February with the AGM being held at the same venue on Saturday 21 February.

FARQUHARSON-BLACK APPOINTED GB&I TEAM CAPTAIN
Scot Elaine Farquharson-Black, a former Curtis Cup and Vagliano Trophy player, has been appointed by the Ladiesí Golf Union to Captain the Great Britain & Ireland golf teams for 2015 and 2016.

She succeeds Tegwen Matthews who famously led GB&I to victory in the 2012 Curtis Cup match at Nairn.
